UCMAS – an innovative Abacus-based Mental Math program – was founded thirty years ago, by Prof. Dr. Dino Wong in Malaysia, with a bold vision to redefine education and equip students with invaluable skills for a lifetime.
From modest beginnings in Malaysia, UCMAS has grown into a global phenomenon, empowering generations of students in over 80 countries with the timeless art of mental arithmetic.
At the heart of UCMAS lies the concept of “Education with a Difference” – a philosophy that goes beyond rote memorization to nurture critical thinking, concentration, and mental agility in children.
In 2004, captivated by the far-reaching influence and core philosophy of UCMAS, two seasoned educators from India, Megha and Anand Karia, ventured to bring this revolutionary program to Canada. Despite the prevailing belief that math was primarily an “Asian concept,” the Karias took a leap of faith, determined to prove that Canadian children were more than ready for the challenge.

And prove they did! Over the past two decades, UCMAS Canada has celebrated a remarkable milestone, successfully training over 50,000 students and reaffirming its commitment to providing quality education and nurturing essential skills for the challenges of the 21st century. With each student’s success story, UCMAS has created its position as one of the leading educational franchises in Canada from its humble beginning in the GTA to creating influential hubs in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ottawa, enriching communities and shaping the future of countless young minds.
What makes UCMAS unique is that it’s not a stagnant concept that forces children to follow ideologies blindly, it is a perfect, scientifically proven concept that can prove everything it preaches. More than 50% of UCMAS students and alumni are accepted into specialized gifted programs, providing them with access to high-quality education opportunities.
